5 Things You Need for a Christmas Lights “Drive Around” Kit!

Christmas of 2020 was a whole new different. We didn’t have our usual Danish relatives in town, so we found ourselves with more time on our hands. Most of that time was spent indoors since we were doing our best to social distance.

We couldn’t stay cooped up all season though. We needed a little “over the river and through the woods” action to spice things up and kill the cabin fever. In ‘normal’ years, we make a whole night out of driving around looking at Christmas lights and night displays. Seeing as how this might be ALL we could do for holiday entertainment, I tricked out my car with some extra fun elements to make the night super special.

We loaded up our little family, my parents, and my brother for a fun night of holiday lights!

Ingredients for a “Cozy Car”:

  • Favorite Holiday Tunes Playlist! —it’s not Christmas to us without Otis Redding, Kenny G, and Dean Martin.
  • Hot Cocoa and/or Apple Cider! —I even sprung for fancy to-go cups just for the occasion. We also brought a few airplane sized booze options for the adult passengers. Not me though, I was driving!
  • Holiday Lights Glasses!can’t recommend these glasses enough. They were fun for both kids and adults. They make Christmas lights look more 3D by turning each light into a shape, like a snowflake or bell. Very trippy, haha. They make perfect gifts for friends and/or stocking stuffers.
  • Blankets! –so cozy to curl up with especially if you’re getting in and out of the car for anything. The kids actually fell asleep on the ride home, so these definitely came in handy!
  • Car Games!Having a few car games up your sleeve, like the classics “Going on a Picnic” and “I Spy,” are clever to employ when you’re waiting in long lines to see light shows. I plan to make a Bingo-style scavenger hunt with prizes for next year!
